Altimus Tierta

Altimus Tierta

How did this "crazed paranoid lunatic, who descended into madness after being exiled" become a hero? Altimus Tierta brought in a new age where "Alternate Truths" were exposed, and placed side by side...

The readers were given the conflicting data, and they were asked to think! They were pushed to verify, to cross reference, and to question. They were asked to come up with their own conclusions, and hundreds of years later - this methodology is still going strong!

The Master Scribe, exiled for asking too many questions, and unwitting post-humous founder of "The Cult Of The Glowing Quill" (if you believe he is dead, the cult do not).

His obsession, his fight to uncover the truth, the claims he was a paranoid lunatic, then the subsequent revelations...shocked the New Empire.

His final humorous, yet sad descent into madness, and his infamous last few days, culminating in his arrest, and his final escape from the most secure dungeon known - ensure his place as a legend.

In an attempt to discredit the worrying new Cult, and in order to save the growing interest - the Master Scribes tried proving his paranoid claims were nonsense.

They compared the six remaining copies of "A Succinct History" and realised - they HAD been edited. They then tried to cover this up,  but the Master Librarian Agnes, entrusted by Altimus - leaked the information and results.

The edits were obviously based on location/region, with some seriously worrying alterations. Some of the alterations, it is believed, sparked changes in government and revolutions. The death of almost 4,000 souls was blamed in one version on a plague, and on the other - poisoning of wells, sparked a war - killing another several thousand.

Altimus spent years working in exile working on his summarised version - where he tried to pull out the dross, and work out the truth and highlight the edits. After many many years, his book is now accepted by the Scribes, and is now standard reading for any apprentice scribe.

And so was born "A More Concise History" with the legendary comments and footnote and comments of Altimus in green ink (and towards the end glows squid ink).

Rather than decide WHICH comments were true, A More Concise History" lists every change side by side, with details/notes/dates/location/observations.

Although reading it as a whole it is obvious his thoughts, he at least tried to be neutral, to let the reader draw their own conclusion!

This "crazed paranoid lunatic" as he was denounced, is now a legend. He brought in a new age of "Truth" where the "alternate truths" are placed side by side...

The reader is given the data, and is allowed to decide for themselves, pushing them to think, do their own research, and come up with their own conclusions.

"Such madness, it will never last...letting the common person decide for themselves? Nonsense"

Summary

A True Legend, a hero who proved that the pen is mightier than the sword (most definitely in his case it would seem)

WYSINWYG / WYGINWYS

*The highest bounty is for Raz'Kul - 10 times the amount, as he will tell anyone and everyone...

** The bounty on Altimus is still active some 300 years later, much to Raz'Kuls annoyance! He is less likely to admit this to anyone or everyone, and will need to beat that 280 years after it is dropped...

*** Rumour has it, that if they had not removed the "...or alive" part of Raz'Kuls bounty, he planned to deliberately get arrested so he could escape Toll Keep "quicker, and without a silly green pen"
