Magica Voxel Spheres

How to create spheres, circles and cylinders in MagicaVoxel, import them into VoxEdit, and reduce Face Count.

In this example I use a size of 60, this is not recommended, use a multiple of 4! I had already done one for 64 and needed one specifically of size 60 so used it for this example. Using 64 would be much more wise as it halves nicely to 32/16/8!

MagicaVoxel

Start with a central floating pixel (there are likely better ways to do this but this works for me). Save this as a template to make further.

Set the Area/Size you want (in this case I created an Area of 80 for a Sphere of 60). I would recommend instead you use 64!!!

Voxel Mode, Attach

If you want a cylinder check "Axis Mode" and one of the Axis, depending on direction you want...

Size (60 in this case), Circle/Sphere

Select 2D for a Circle or Cylinder or 3D for a Sphere.

Save file as whatever you want to call it. For example I think in the end I saved this as 60sphere.

Import into VoxEdit

It should automatically set the size to 60*60*60 (or whatever size you need), if not crop to fit.

Note that this has 7392 Faces! I really would not put this in Sandbox.

Reduce Face Count

If you half the size of it and double it you get 1806 faces.

If you Quarter it you get 420 Faces! Probably more sensible.

Final Result

A 60*60*60 Sphere of 3 levels of granularity.

If you want smaller versions of it, halve the size without doubling it again, which will save you some time. Please see my note about starting with 64 to make 32/16/8/etc!
