We Feel Cleaner.
We don't like or agree with the "ethics" of the companies running/manipulating the previous "game" and the entire "market".
Minecraft Is Better (even without mods/shaders/packs)
The Results Are Better.
We have control and ownership.
The Logic We Use Is Complex For Us, But For A Computer (or a JVM) Insanely Simple. But...
Minecraft Can Handle This Easily, The Previous "Game" Cannot Handle 1/100th of the processing without insanely complex logic built into the game through workarounds (by a genius community who deserve so much respect, they have used a 1990 calculator to build some amazing creations and logic).
Scripting/Modding/Shaders/Packs (we know it is there, but not available).
We are not limited in what we can do.
We have support, and communities that care, controlled by a company that respects the user.
We Feel Cleaner (did we say that already?)
"Game" Company X Response - Game is in quotes as I wouldn't call it a game, in fact they themselves admit this by keeping it in "Alpha".
After raising dozens of issues regarding privacy, security, ethics, requests for years for them to actually deliver on any of their promises, or provide a timeline, or support, or anything - nothing. In fact they actually removed functionality, and reduced quality.
OK that is not 100% accurate. I raised dozens of issues, and had exactly 1 response, which was when I proved they had a serious security issue which would have impacted THEM! Not the community. This was proven, and the means and method were never released, even after they fixed this.
Mojang Response
I raised a general query to Mojang, with no suggestion or implication of any issue (as there are none), but asking about security and privacy - and they responded. They were brilliant, offered advice, and replied multiple times, as well as going the extra mile and making some suggestions. As any company should do.
The simple fact is Minecraft, and the community, and the mods...are better, the results are better.
Mojang are a company worthy of respect, and they care...
Microsoft do not get this praise by association, but they correctly identified serious security issues I had already raised with the other "Company X" and their associated software. And that is only a small piece of the issue
After spending 100's of hours working on a "Sandbox" Crypto Game, and using multiple tools (for which I won't mention the name, as most (but not all by any means) of the tools are great (I will not darken their name by association) for which this project was originally planned - we have moved on.
"Sandbox" is in quotes as I am referring to the type/style of game. There is no allegation or inference to any sandbox game which has taken that name. No inference to any company, game, or software should be taken from this page!
The fact we might have worked for 100's of hours on such a game, helped the community, provided tutorials, help, advice, and provided security and privacy warnings - is pure coincidence!
But anyway does ANyone care? In this Multiverse Of Corruption and the new age of Web3 (we have an article on that). It doesn't matter too much? But still it's An interesting question. It is amazing how in this "Crypto Winter" some companies seem to be making billions. But there's more important things to do, like play Monopoly...
I'm sure you will find details elsewhere on the internet, and in many other places, of some of the concerns, serious security risks, spreading of lies, dangling of carrots to the community, promises of things like avatar creation, custom sounds and audio, publication of assets to the marketplace, total lack of ethics, code being marked as viruses correctly by virus checkers, zero support, no ability to opt out of privacy and trackers, un-necessary elevation, dangerous advice being give through their social media channels by "promoted" users who actually have no association with the company, deliberately with-holding features, and the game, hiding in Alpha, lack of code signing, "alleged" market manipulation?
All hearsay of course, don't believe anything you read on the internet, and remember this website is a work of complete fiction, and is the basis for multiple fantasy books which are being written.
The tools we used previously, ar emostly good (and some great). There is no way would we ever tar their name by saying we don't like them, and we still use them. Note that word "mostly". Any link between the tools we no longer use and the game in question are purely coincidence.
We are now using Minecraft/iris/Sodium/Shaders/Packs/Textures/Models, built by ourselves. Imagine that, being able to do these things yourselves, with no elitism, money grabbing, laughable ethics, and with a community that is respected by the legend that is Mojang?
And most importantly, we feel a lot more clean, though still trying to wash off the stain...
